Rhonda
Batson displays Design u'r Memories' new high-end imaging and printing
system that allows customers to have their large format scrapbooks
scanned and printed on site. (Special to the Daily Record)
Design
u'r Memories, "that scrapbooking store" at 518 Main St., and owned by
Rhonda and Fay Batson, offers supplies for card making, scrapbooking and
many other paper crafts.
But now Design u'r Memories also offers a high-end imaging and
printing system that allows customers to have their large format
scrapbooks scanned and printed on site and also have photographic
slides, old photos and large transparencies scanned or printed. The
scanning and printing can be up to 12 ½ inches by 17 ½ inches and
includes specialty papers and canvas.
Rhonda said the system fills a need as her customers complained about
having to send their precious books to Florida or leave them for weeks
in Colorado Springs. This caused people to worry the whole time about
their heirloom scrapbooks and sometimes the results were less than what
was expected.
"Having a system in Cañon City allows the owner to leave their books
or slides with the store, where they will be safe," she said.
In addition, when slides are being scanned, the client can view them
and decide which they want to have saved, if time allows. After the
scanning process, the digital information can be saved on a flash drive
or DVD. Other people have asked to have multiple copies made of family
or vacation scrapbooks and others only want their books scanned to DVD's
to store in a safe place in case of a natural disaster. This is all
part of the service.
"When working with our first projects, we found the system allows us
to remove dust or other imperfections from slides and do minor
restoration of photographs," Rhonda advised.
The system seems to be working well and a countywide following has
developed, as the first customers have been from Pueblo West, Penrose
and Cotopaxi, in addition to Cañon City and Florence.
Rhonda reminds people that she expects a holiday rush as more people
become aware of the capabilities, and she doesn't want any of her
customers to be left out at this busy time of year.
